While we were celebrating, our country also took time to remember the men and women of our military who sacrifice every day to protect us. Our service men and women are working courageously to protect all American lives —both born and unborn. But right now, Congress is threatening to turn our military bases and hospitals at home and abroad from places of healing to abortion mills, while forcing you and me to subsidize it. As you know, the Department of Defense Authorization bill includes an amendment from Senator Burris which would take our tax dollars and use them to subsidize abortions on military bases. | | | Over the past two weeks, SBA List activists have sent over 13,000 messages asking their Representatives to sign on to the pro-life letter written by Representatives Todd Akin (R-MO) and Gene Taylor (D-MS) asking Congressional leaders to keep the abortion provision out of the bill. Each email was worth it--180 Representatives signed the Akin-Taylor letter! But the bill will first come to a vote in the Senate later this month, so we've got to keep the pressure on high. | | | Vic, your Senators are home right now for the 4th of July recess—Call them TODAY at their district offices and tell them to vote "NO" on the Defense Authorization bill if includes the abortion provision. Our action alert has everything you will need to call—including the phone numbers and helpful talking points. | | | Senator Burris' radical amendment would force our military doctors and nurses to become complicit in the deaths of untold numbers of American babies. There is no room for this horrific practice on our nation's military bases and we cannot stand for it.
